The art of
Belly Dance

Belly dance, also known as oriental dance or Raqs Sharqi (dance of the East), is a feminine and gracious dance with its roots in the Middle East.

From social festivities to professional performances, this dance has always been a form of celebration that brings people together. Belly dance is also pursued as a great form of exercise, wellbeing, and empowerment.

One thing we can all agree on is that this art form elevates the spirit and makes us feel beautiful from the inside out!

Meet Mirian

Dedicated to learning, studying, and teaching oriental and folk dances for more than 20 years, Mirian Caberlon started her dance journey in her home country, Brazil, at the age of 8. She has travelled to Egypt and India to study, seek inspiration and to be in contact with the local culture, having the privilege of studying with renowned teachers around the world.

Since moving to New Zealand in 2014, she started her own dance school in the capital, running several events, classes, and workshops around the country. Mirian is Dandarah's director, principal teacher, choreographer and above all, an artist that inspires people with her charismatic dance, creativity, knowledge, and professionalism.

Our values

Dance for joy

We dance for joy, and with joy. In this art, we find connection and beauty within ourselves. We like to feel inspired and to inspire others as we celebrate life’s movement through dance.

Dance for wellbeing

We promote wellbeing through movement, expression, and creativity. Belly dance supports physical health by strengthening core muscles and improving posture, coordination and memory. Belly dance also promotes a positive self-image, empowers the spirit, and celebrates femininity.

Dance together

We are a community that embraces one another. Our school promotes events, classes, and gatherings where dancers can interact socially, feel inspired, and build friendships.

Dance in gratitude

We embrace the pure essence of belly dance and honour the origins of this art form and all artists who have inspired us in this journey.
